Float is a workout logging application operated by Louis, based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada
This policy applies to users in the European Economic Area (GDPR) and in Québec, Canada (Law 25 / Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector).
We do not collect, store, or process any personal information that we can read.
All data you enter — workouts, profile information, shared content — is encrypted on your device using a key derived from your credentials before it reaches our servers. We store only encrypted blobs. We have no technical ability to read your data, and we keep no server-side logs that contain personal information.
We do not use analytics services, advertising trackers, or third-party data processors that access personal data.
We do not use cookies for tracking or analytics. Any cookies used are strictly necessary for the application to function (e.g., session authentication tokens) and contain no personal information in readable form.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third party.
We are technically unable to identify or locate any specific user's data in response to a legal request. Our system stores no usernames, email addresses, or any other identifying information in readable form. We cannot link any stored data to any individual, including in response to a court order or law enforcement request. We have nothing to hand over — not because we are withholding it, but because it does not exist in our possession in any meaningful form.
Encrypted data is retained for as long as your account is active.
Upon account deletion, all associated encrypted data is permanently deleted from our servers immediately. No backup or residual copy is retained.
We offer no account recovery mechanism. Encryption keys are derived from your credentials and never leave your device. If you lose your password, your data is permanently inaccessible — to you and to us. We recommend keeping a secure backup of your credentials.
Even under a zero-knowledge architecture, you have rights we respect:
Access & portability — You can export your data at any time from within the app. Since you hold the key, only you can decrypt it.
Deletion — You can delete your account and all associated encrypted data at any time from the app settings.
Correction — You can edit or update your information at any time within the app.
Complaint — If you are in the EEA, you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Québec, you may contact the Commission d'accès à l'information (CAI) at cai.gouv.qc.ca.
To the extent any processing occurs (e.g., transmission of encrypted data), the legal basis is the performance of a contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) — specifically, providing the workout logging service you signed up for.
We use end-to-end encryption with user-derived keys. Our servers never see plaintext data. We apply industry-standard security practices to protect our infrastructure, but we emphasize that the primary security guarantee comes from the encryption architecture itself.
Our service is not directed at children under 16. We have no mechanism to verify user age, consistent with our zero-knowledge architecture. By using this app, users confirm they are 16 or older. Since we store no identifiable information, we cannot retroactively identify or delete a minor's data — nor can anyone else.
If we make material changes to this policy, we will display a notice within the app before changes take effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
